Basic Principles for Using the Design Tables

The dead load of the glulam beam must be taken into account
Gleichförmige Belastung
Even load
Loading on a span basis is not taken into account
Shear deformations, creep deformations and man load are not taken into account

Assumption: truss is held against lateral yielding ? no danger of tilting
Modulus of elasticity:
BS 11: E = 11000 N/mm2
BS 14: E = 12000 N/mm2
Permissible bending stress
BS 11: perm. ρb = 11 N/mm2
BS 14: perm. ρb = 14 N/mm2
across the inner support
BS 11: perm. ρb = 12,1 N/mm2
BS 14: perm. ρb = 15,4 N/mm2

Permissible shear stress:
τ = 1.2 N/mm2
fper = l/300
Decisive design criterion
f = deflection
M = moment
Q = transverse force
Height and width in mm
Span in m
Load in kN/m
    Single Span Beam

Double Span Beam

p = live load or snow load [kN/m]
g =

constant load, inc. dead load of beam [kN/m]
q = p + g [kN/m]
