MUF adhesive with light-coloured glue line (all sections up to b = 24 cm)
RF glues with dark-coloured glue line for block bonds with glulam widths >28 cm (Reuthe only)

    Lamella Thicknesses
Straight, parallel glulam in accordance with DIN 1052/EN 386 up to max. 42 mm
Arched, curved components, see glulam special shapes, lamella thickness
d = r/200

Appearance Grades

Architectural
Industrial
Natural (architectural appearance without repairs)

Surface Quality Criteria
4 sides clean planed
Edges with approx. 3 mm chamfer
Light-coloured glue line
Shrinkage cracks may arise due to the natural shrinking and swelling behaviour depending on the ambient conditions. See also the note on “Crack Formation” in the technical data sheet

Surface Description Availability
Architectural grade 4 sides clean planed

Kaufmann standard

Blue stain and red striping permissible on 10% of surface
Firmly intergrown knots permissible
Loose knots with dia. > 20 mm will be replaced
Industrial grade 4 sides clean planed On request
No requirements on surface
Natural grade As architectural quality but without repairs (wooden plugs) On request

Surface Treatment
Untreated
Colourless impregnation on request
Coloured stains and lacquers on request (Reuthe only)
It is recommended that lacquers are not applied until the equilibrium moisture content (EMC) has been reached.

Dimensional Tolerances
Finished sizes in acc. with EN 390
“Glulam limit tolerances” with measuring reference moisture of 15%
Width of section All widths
Width tolerance ± 2 mm
Height of section < 400 mm > 400 mm
Height tolerance + 4 mm / – 2 mm + 1% / – 0.5 %
Beam lengths < 2.0 m 2.0 m bis < 20 m > 20 m

Glulam Standard Sections
Widths from 6 cm in 2 cm steps up to max. 24 cm
Heights from 12 cm in 4 cm steps up to max. press height
Exceptions 10/10 and 14/14 cm
Standard sections result from the availability of the raw material in Central Europe
Standard sections are stock sections, i.e. they are low-priced and generally immediately available
Other sections can be produced without a problem in all Kaufmann factories, the calculation dimension is the next larger standard section, e.g. delivery dimension 9/23 cm = calculation dimension 10/24 cm

Technical Data
Stock beams
e.g. 12, 13, 60 and 18 m, produced with a few cm oversize, cut ends upon request
Commissions from 3 m
Reuthe
Kalwang
Richen
up to 32.50 m
up to 36 m
up to 24 m
Multiple lengths
Individual lengths (commissions) are generally produced and delivered in multiple lengths with an additional measurement of 1 cm per individual length. In this case the multiple length is limited to either the transport length (12 or 13.60 m) or the longest length of the commission.
Fixed length
Precision double end trim of individual components with ± 2 mm tolerance. Possible on request at extra cost.
    Shrinkage and Swelling Behaviour
Shrinkage and swelling dimensions per 1% of change in moisture of timber:
  Length:
Radial:
Tangential:
0.01 – 0.02%
0.19 %
0.34 %
An equilibrium moisture content of approx. 9% is to be anticipated in closed, normally ventilated rooms.

Joining Work
Exact cut to size according to timber list in all Kaufmann factories
Additional joining services including CNC processing on in Reuthe factory
    Packaging
Packed in bundles or individually in plastic film
Film serves as transport protection against dirt and spray water
Film only protects the glulam against UV radiation and water absorption to a certain extent
The film is not suitable for storing the glulam for longer periods
Short-term ingress of water into the package does not signify a defect. If water has entered the package, remove the film quickly and ensure good circulation
    Labelling of Goods and Packages
Component labels with details of customer, job number, strength, quality and delivery date
Package label with details of customer, commission, delivery address and package contents including number of items, sections, lengths and cubature (Kalwang and Richen)
Further identification of the components in acc. with standards and specifications, e.g. BS 14, BS 16 and BS 18

Storage
Interim storage in roofed hall if possible
As far as possible protect glulam against external weather conditions, e.g. cover with tarpaulin during assembly and installation
Glulam is a processed natural product and should accordingly be treated with care.
